When Dilli met Kejri and Bharat took revenge on her behalf.

It was a Jab We Met, just like the movies. When Dilli, Bharti’s favourite sister, met Kejri. The courtship was long and tumulus. It was fiercely opposed by the elders. The more they tried to defame him, the more she fell in love with him and wanted to take it to the next level.

Dilli had been in an uneasy relationship with a Sarkar that treated its riches like Commonwealth. Her heart was feeling as empty as her bank account. How long could she continue paying Rs 200 for a kilo of peas for her muttar pulao! She was tired of drowning her sorrows in the nearest pothole and wanted a way out.

Kejri’s timing was perfect. What’s more, he promised to sweep away her sorrows with his jhadoo. In his topi and muffler, he was no knight in shining armour. Kejri was dark and not so handsome. But for Dilli it was love at first sight. And when he spoke, Dilli swayed mesmerised.

He looked AAM but made Dilli feel Khaas. She wanted change, he promised her a revolution.

He was what Dilli had waited for all her life. No wonder she fell for him hook line and sinker. But when it was time to say I do, he hmmed and hawed and kept her on tenterhooks.

Oh how she sighed in relief when he walked up to the altar after a referendum.

K was no typical partner. He would be out most nights partying. He was stubborn and said he wanted to change the world with dharnas. When Dilli expressed her doubts over his fidelity - he’d say, whatever I do, it’s for you, meri jaan. He was mercurial, made her feel queasy, uneasy. Sceptics with their I-told-you-so looks, didn’t make it any easy. Dilli prayed, even hung from the ghanti at the nearby mandir and screamed – Why me, Bhagwan!

He walked out. It wasn’t even her fault. Dilli wanted him for herself, he said, my ambitions are many, jaane do na yaar!

The man who’d crooned to her “I have a dream’ and promised her a happily ever after, walked out on her in just 49 days. She thought she was his Queen of Hearts. Too bad he turned out to be a Knave.

Dilli was shattered, Bharti consoled her and said your grief is not yours but ours, and picked up the spade on her behalf.

Dilli’s heart turned to stone as she watched his many shenanigans on TV. Accusing everyone of infidelity when it was he who broke her heart. He had set his sights high this time, targeting Adani and Ambani. Only this time, Bharti laughed off his claims as a lot of gas.

Trust Mister Weather to be on the side of jilted, to turn on the heat and make him show his true side. Off the came the muffler, gone was the cough, Kejriwal, was finally exposed.

Strangely it brought out the unexpected.

The man who had promised to clean the system was now getting to see its dirty side. The messiah of change was now being anointed with eggs and greeted with slaps, leaving him red-faced and humiliated.

Bharti had now adopted Dilli’s rejection. She went back to her old suitor, Kamal, with new vigour, seeking solace in his arms, turning a blind eye to his violent past.

Kejriwal par kachra daal, abki baar Modi Sarkar – was her cry of war.

After years of being led astray, Bharti wanted to settle. Why take chances with a newbie, when old Kamal promises her security?

But a voice that she tries to supress, keeps telling her that Kejri might be her only chance of true happiness. He may protest too much, play the victim, make tall claims and not deliver much, but he might be her only chance of cleansing the system everyone despises.

So, tell me Bharati, is it him or is it change that scares you so much?

  1. Oh yeah I know what you mean.. Kejri's betrayal of Dill is what made any of hesitate about him .. but I spoke to a few fraands of his and they all say he agrees things went wrong and they blame it on inexperience and naivety. They want to rectify that they say.
Whatever it might be, when it comes to elder behen Bharti, however stupid Kejri might have been, the question is will she be worse off with the others? Or even if the other woos her for now, will some (opp) presence of Kejri at least help keep her a bit happy?

    2. He himself had admitted that he regrets his rash decision of walking out of the Government. We had reposed so much faith in him.

  2. People get the government they deserve so it does not matter whether we get slaps from Hand or a Lotus that blooms in mud, or a Broom to clean the muck!

  3. Nice post, a love triangle between Bharti, Dilli and Kejri was not an angle that struck me at all. Trust you to come up with something as lively as this post :)

  4. I like the analogy. Dilli and Kejri in a wedlock of half-fulfilled promises. The dreams that got shattered untimely and the shameful retaliation.....while kamal seems to be the only ideological alternative for the moment, I too feel, AAM would do well for Dilli. Great post...

      And thank you.

  5. Kejri shouldn't have ditched Dilli. Another movie comes to mind Purba. Kejri was like the hero of the movie Queen who wooed Kangana but said No, prior to the wedding. Later when he wanted the girl back, she had changed her mind. You can't be fickle in politics and expect people to trust you. And you can't change five decades of rot in five months. Kejriwal is biting more than he can chew and digest.
    Lovely write up.

  9. There will always be hiccups for a change to take place in the real sense. But for this change to take place a lot of maturity, deliberation and the guts to take responsibility is needed. Kejri jumped the gun whereas he should have first consolidated Dilli and made it as an example as per their convictions.

    1. Exactly! The man is too impulsive and his team is not too great either.

Delhi was his golden opportunity and look how he squandered it.

  11. Wonderful. A question that is hanging in bold in front of everyone. Humor with an edge. I agree with Alka. Kejriwal is a guy who wooed and then just couldn't bear the burden of being on the aisle.

  12. This is a wonderful post. I totally agree, Kejriwal may be India's only chance to clean the corrupt and rotten system. There is a strong undercurrent running across which is going to affect the wind badly. :) :D

  17. As Dickens started of the tale of two cities, so might we be quoting "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."
But tell me oh Bharti and Dilli, you know it at your heart that neither of them can save you, all they can do is try, and all you can do is roll the dice one more time.

    :)

    1. What a timeless observation by Dickens. Thanks for sharing it, Anshul.

There has been a perceptible change this time, with so many of us becoming aware and taking active interest in our elected.

  18. Big mistake - Kejri dumping Dilli! And to think that she, so used to her stylish Zaras and Starbucks, had fallen hard for the Muffler Man who bore less style than a threewheeler. Oh, the pain she went through when he left her in the rain and walked away, coughing, into the sunset!
Anyway, maybe not all is lost. Kejri is but an Aam Aadmi, and Aam Aadmis are known to make mistakes. It's only Khaas Aadmis like Kamalbhai, handmade by Ramji Himself who have nothing to apologize for. Maybe Dilli has forgiven Kejri, however grudgingly, after all. We shall know soon enough.

What can we say of a man who runs away from challenges?
Does he realise that Sheila Dixit is Kerala Governor, thanks to him.

  19. Hmmm...interesting take. But I would still say. Dilli was skeptical about Kejri. That is why he did not get clear majority and was the second largest party.
    Politics make strange bedfellows.
Only time will tell, whether we will be standing, looking inside through the window and will be trying to figure out which is which.

  20. Kejri betrayal was a classic case and guess, beautiful Dilli will take the revenge on the Bhagaro, though, NamO NaMo may not be the solution. Let's see how Dilli get back its lost glory and shines like the Queen. Love the absolute take, Purba and whatta love story churned out so creatively:)
